Can You Play Wolf Creek on WGT by TopGolf? Here’s How
Wolf Creek is the course that looks like it was designed by someone who had never seen a golf course before and decided to build one in a desert canyon. The elevation changes are absurd. The risk-reward holes are everywhere. The 11th hole is a par 3 over water with the clubhouse in the background that has been the background of a million screenshots.
On WGT, Wolf Creek is visually spectacular. The dramatic elevation changes, the desert landscape, the canyon holes — it is the best-looking course in the WGT library. And more importantly, it is one of the most fun courses to play.
How Wolf Creek Plays on WGT
The elevation changes are the defining feature. Wolf Creek drops and climbs through a desert canyon with changes of 100 feet or more on some holes. On WGT, the elevation data makes the yardage calculations dramatic. A 180-yard par 3 that drops 60 feet plays more like 140. A 450-yard par 4 that climbs 50 feet plays more like 480. You will pull the wrong club on your first round. Everyone does.
The risk-reward holes are everywhere. Wolf Creek has at least six holes where you can carry a canyon, a desert wash, or a water hazard to gain a significant advantage. On WGT, the carries are accurate. If you can hit the shot, you are rewarded. If you cannot, you are in the desert, and the desert does not give your ball back.
The desert is the penalty. Wolf Creek does not have thick rough. It has rocks, sand, and native vegetation. On WGT, the desert lies are punishing. You cannot advance the ball more than 50 yards from a bad lie. The smart play is to keep the ball on the fairway at all costs.
The Best Holes
The 11th — The Signature Hole: A par 3 over water with the clubhouse behind the green. It is the most photographed hole in the library and it plays as good as it looks. On WGT, this hole is a screenshot generator. The carry is 160 yards from the tips. The wind matters. The green is protected by water short and bunkers long. Hit the green or accept your fate.
The 7th: A par 5 that drops dramatically from the tee to a fairway that snakes through a canyon. The second shot is a decision point — go for the green in two over a massive desert wash or lay up and leave a wedge. On WGT, the view from the tee is one of the best in sim golf.
The 18th: A par 5 that climbs back up to the clubhouse. The fairway is tight, the desert is on both sides, and the green is elevated with the clubhouse in the background. On WGT, you finish the round the same way you started — hitting a shot that requires carry, commitment, and a little luck.
How It Compares
Wolf Creek is the best visual showcase for WGT’s engine. No other course in the library shows off the elevation changes and dramatic terrain as well as this one.
GSPro and Trackman have versions that are more detailed in the rock textures and desert vegetation. But WGT’s version is licensed, the elevation changes are accurate, and the 11th hole is as good as it looks on any platform.
For the price, Wolf Creek on WGT is the most fun you can have on the platform. It is not a serious U.S. Open test like Bethpage Black or Oakmont. It is a roller coaster. And on WGT, it is the best roller coaster in the library.
The Bottom Line
Wolf Creek on WGT is the most visually dramatic course in the WGT library and one of the most fun rounds of sim golf available on any budget platform. Play it with no wind first to learn the yardages. Then turn the wind up and watch the carnage.
