Whistling Straits is a golf course that looks like it was designed by someone who loves bunkers a little too much. There are approximately 1,000 of them spread across the Straits Course. Some are in play. Some are decorative. All of them add to the visual chaos that makes Whistling Straits one of the most distinctive courses in America.

On the TruGolf Apogee, Whistling Straits is accessible through E6 Connect’s premium library. The course that hosted the 2015 PGA Championship and the 2021 Ryder Cup is available, but it costs extra.

How to Access Whistling Straits on the Apogee

The pattern is consistent. E6 Connect Course Library upgrade at $1,000. Whistling Straits premium add-on at roughly $25. Total on top of the $4,995 Apogee: $1,025.

Whistling Straits is not in the base E6 library. It is a premium course that requires both the Course Library upgrade and the individual add-on purchase. If you own an Apogee and want to play it, these are the costs.

How Whistling Straits Plays on E6 Through the Apogee

The bunkers are the defining feature. E6’s version of Whistling Straits renders the 1,000 bunkers across the property. Some are visually accurate from the tee. Others appear as fairway hazards that come into play on the second shot. The visual density of the bunkers is part of the appeal of Whistling Straits, and E6 captures the look of a course that has more sand than grass.

The Lake Michigan coastline is the second feature. Holes 5, 6, 7, 12, and 17 run along the lake. On E6 Connect, the lake rendering is good — the water has color, movement, and scale. The par-3 17th over the lake is rendered with the proper carry distance and visual intimidation. The wind off Lake Michigan affects ball flight on E6, so the 17th plays differently based on the conditions.

The 18th hole is one of the best finishing holes in championship golf. The uphill tee shot, the fairway bunkers on both sides, the approach to a green guarded by sand. E6’s version of the 18th plays correctly. The drive must carry the fairway bunker on the right. The approach is to a green that runs away from the player.

The fescue rough is punishing. Whistling Straits has the native fescue that makes any offline shot a penalty. E6’s rough physics treat the fescue as dense grass that reduces spin and control. The Apogee’s strike detection feeds into this, so a ball hit from the fescue produces a different shot shape than a ball from the fairway.

The Apogee Experience

The Apogee’s overhead tracking handles the visual complexity of Whistling Straits well. The course has blind shots, elevated tees, and hidden hazards. The Apogee’s camera-based alignment and the E6 overhead view help with course management in a way that a floor-based launch monitor cannot match.

Voice commands are useful here. “Set wind to 15 mph from the lake.” “Load the 17th hole.” “Change conditions to firm.” The course responds without menu navigation.

The Cost Consideration

Whistling Straits on the Apogee is expensive. The same course on GSPro is available as a community build for $15 a month through SGT. On Trackman, it is in the premium library at a lower cost. On Awesome Golf, it is included with the annual subscription.

The Apogee is a premium hardware product with premium software costs. If you already own an Apogee and have the Course Library upgrade, Whistling Straits is worth the $25 add-on. It is one of the best visually distinctive courses in the E6 library. But if you are choosing between platforms and Whistling Straits is a priority, the Apogee is the most expensive way to access it.
