Can You Play Kiawah Island Ocean Course on TruGolf Apogee? Here’s How

The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island is Pete Dye’s Atlantic Ocean masterpiece. It is the course that hosted the 1991 Ryder Cup — the War by the Shore — and the 2012 and 2021 PGA Championships. It is 7,876 yards from the tips. The wind blows 20 mph on an average day. The closing stretch of holes along the ocean is one of the most exposed finishes in championship golf.

On the TruGolf Apogee, the Ocean Course is available through E6 Connect’s premium library. Like every premium course on the Apogee, it costs extra.

How to Access Kiawah Ocean Course on the Apogee

E6 Connect Course Library upgrade at $1,000. Kiawah Island Ocean Course premium add-on at roughly $25. Total on top of the $4,995 Apogee: $1,025.

The Ocean Course is not in the base E6 library. It is a premium course that requires both the Course Library upgrade and the individual purchase.

How Kiawah Plays on E6 Through the Apogee

The wind is the defining feature of the Ocean Course. On E6 Connect, the wind settings matter more here than on almost any other course in the library. The closing stretch of holes 15-18 runs directly along the Atlantic with zero tree cover. A 15 mph wind from the ocean makes the approach shots on 16, 17, and 18 play completely differently than a downwind round.

The ocean rendering on E6 is solid. The Atlantic Ocean on holes 15-18 is rendered with depth and scale. The water is not photorealistic at the level of GSPro’s best coastal builds, but it is recognizable as the Atlantic. The scale of the course — the wide fairways, the massive dunes, the ocean horizon — comes through on E6’s visual engine.

The island green on the par-3 17th hole is the signature feature. E6’s version renders the island green with the proper dimensions. The carry is correct from each tee box. The green slopes from back to front, and E6’s putting physics capture the slope correctly. The decision to play for the center of the green or go at the pin is the same decision that Rory McIlroy faced in the 2021 PGA Championship.

The Pete Dye visual deception is present. The Ocean Course has fairway bunkers that look like they are in play but are actually decoys. E6’s overhead view helps with these deceptive features — on an overhead map, you can see the actual landing areas and ignore the visual threats.

The Apogee Advantage for the Ocean Course

The wind integration is where the Apogee and E6 work well together for Kiawah. Set the wind to 20 mph from the ocean and play the back nine. The Apogee’s club data feeds into E6’s wind physics, and the result is a round where club selection matters more than normal. A 7-iron into the wind is a 5-iron. A 5-iron downwind is a 7-iron.

Voice commands help with the long round. Kiawah from the back tees is a 7,800-yard experience. The ability to change conditions between the front and back nine without menu navigation keeps the round moving.

The Value Reality

Kiawah Ocean Course on the Apogee is the most expensive way to play the course on any sim platform. On GSPro, the Ocean Course is a popular community build. On Trackman, it is in the library. On E6 Connect through any other launch monitor, the same premium add-on pricing applies, but you are not paying the $4,995 hardware premium.

If you already own an Apogee and the Course Library upgrade, the Ocean Course is one of the best premium add-ons E6 offers. The wind-dependent back nine is a genuine sim golf experience. If you are choosing between platforms, the Apogee is the wrong choice if Kiawah is your priority course.
