Inverness Club is available on GSPro, and the LIDAR community build captures one of the most historically significant Donald Ross designs in America. Inverness has hosted four US Opens, two PGA Championships, and the 2021 Solheim Cup. The course was renovated by Andrew Green in 2019 — the restoration that stripped out tree corridors, rebuilt bunkers to Ross’s original drawings, and returned the green complexes to their intended form.

The GSPro build captures the post-Green renovation layout. The course plays firm and fast. The fairways run into collection areas. The green complexes are the defense — Ross’s signature raised greens with falloffs on every side.

Quality Assessment

The LIDAR build of Inverness is strong. The course sits on gently rolling Ohio terrain with subtle elevation changes that the LIDAR data captures well. The standout is the green contouring — the restored Ross greens have internal movement that reads cleanly on the LIDAR surface.

The sixth hole, the 152-yard par-3 over water with a back-to-front sloping green, is the signature. Inverness also features a demanding closing stretch — the par-4 15th, par-5 16th, par-3 17th, and par-4 18th — that the GSPro physics handle well. The 17th, a 217-yard par-3 over water to a green surrounded by bunkers, is one of the best one-shot holes in American golf.

Visual quality is standard LIDAR. Inverness was heavily tree-lined before the Green restoration, and the post-renovation openness is captured in the LIDAR scan.

Courses to Compare

Inverness belongs to the same Andrew Green restoration family as Oakmont on GSPro. Both courses received Green renovations that restored Golden Age architecture. Baltusrol on GSPro is another Tillinghast-Ross era peer worth comparing.
