The Short Answer

Arcadia Bluffs is the best public course in Michigan, sitting on bluffs above Lake Michigan. Here is how the LIDAR community build plays on GSPro.

Arcadia Bluffs sits on a bluff above Lake Michigan and claims to be the finest public course in the state. The claim is not empty. Warren Henderson and Rick Smith built a course that routes along 200 feet of elevation change, with views of the lake visible from every hole, and the design is both dramatic and fair.

On GSPro, Arcadia Bluffs is available as a LIDAR community build. It is one of the best public course LIDAR conversions on the platform because the terrain is so distinctive.

Finding Arcadia Bluffs on GSPro

Search for “Arcadia Bluffs” in the GSPro course database. The LIDAR version is available in the community section.

The LIDAR Quality

The elevation changes at Arcadia Bluffs are the course defining feature. The LIDAR data captures the dramatic drops from the bluffs down to the lake level and the climbs back up. The course is open and treeless along the bluffs, making the LIDAR scans clean and complete.

The greens are large and undulating with significant internal contour. The LIDAR captures the major slopes and the false fronts that defend so many of the greens. The bunkering is bold and visible, placed to define lines of play rather than just catch bad shots.

How It Plays

Arcadia Bluffs is a target course in the best sense. The holes along the bluff require precise carries over ravines and native grasses. The par-3 12th hole plays across a ravine to a green set on the edge of the bluff, and it is one of the best par-3s on GSPro.

The course plays firm and fast because the sandy soil and the wind dry out the fairways. On GSPro, you need to account for the elevation changes and the wind to hit the correct distance.

The par-5 11th hole is the signature. It plays downhill from the clubhouse to the lake, with a green that sits at the base of the bluff. The LIDAR captures the full drama of the hole, including the forced carry over the ravine on the second shot.

What You Miss

The real Arcadia Bluffs is a sensory experience. The lake breeze, the sound of the water, the views of the Manitou Islands – none of that transfers to the sim. What you get is the shot values and the elevation changes, which are good enough to make the download worthwhile.

Verdict

Arcadia Bluffs on GSPro is a strong LIDAR build of one of America’s best public courses. The elevation changes are dramatic, the par-3s are excellent, and the course offers a style of golf that is different from most sim offerings.

If you cannot make the trip to northern Michigan, download the LIDAR build and see what you are missing. Then book the trip. You will not regret either decision.
