Sheep Ranch on GSPro is the most visually dramatic round of golf at Bandon Dunes. Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw’s design — the fifth and newest course at the resort — features thirteen holes that play directly along the Pacific Ocean, more than any other course on the property. The GSPro version translates that drama into a simulation experience that rivals anything in the game.

The Oceanfront Routing

Sheep Ranch is not subtle. The course sits on the northernmost point of the Bandon Dunes property, and almost every hole has the ocean in frame. There are no trees, no inland stretches, no break from the coastal exposure. The GSPro version shows this clearly — the entire round plays along bluffs with the Pacific as a constant backdrop.

What makes Sheep Ranch different from Pacific Dunes is the scale. The greens at Sheep Ranch are enormous, some of the largest in American golf. The 5th and 17th share a massive double green that covers over 40,000 square feet. In simulation, these greens are immediately recognizable. Approaches that look safe from the fairway can leave 80-foot putts across a green that stretches like a runway.

The course has no bunkers in the traditional sense. Coore and Crenshaw replaced sand with grass hollows and natural blowouts. The GSPro version represents these as waste areas and collection zones that funnel balls away from greens. It is a different kind of hazard — you cannot blast out of a bunker; you have to putt or chip from a hollow.

Course Quality Assessment

The LiDAR data captures the ocean bluff terrain effectively. The elevation changes from tee to fairway to green are visible and affect club selection. The 13th hole, a par 4 that plays downhill toward the ocean, requires at least one extra club less than the yardage suggests, and the GSPro version respects that.

The greens are the course’s defining feature, and the GSPro version handles them well. The putting grid reveals the massive internal contours, and three-putting is a regular occurrence. The approach shot is everything at Sheep Ranch — leave yourself below the hole or face a two-putt that feels like a victory.

The visual quality is community-grade, but Sheep Ranch’s natural setting works in its favor. The wide horizons and ocean vistas are less demanding on texture quality than a tree-lined parkland course. The course looks good because it has less to render wrong.

FAQ

Is Sheep Ranch available on GSPro?

Yes. Sheep Ranch is available as a free community-built course on the GSPro course server. It is included with any GSPro subscription at no additional cost.

How realistic is Sheep Ranch on GSPro?

The oceanfront routing and green sizes are well captured. The grass hollows and blowouts are represented as waste areas. The course plays slightly easier than the real version because the internal green contours are simplified.

Can I play Sheep Ranch on other simulator software?

Sheep Ranch is primarily available on GSPro. E6 Connect and FSX Play do not currently offer it in their licensed course libraries.

What makes Sheep Ranch different from Pacific Dunes?

Sheep Ranch has more oceanfront holes, larger greens, and no traditional bunkers. Pacific Dunes is more strategic with tighter green complexes. Sheep Ranch is the more dramatic visual experience; Pacific Dunes is the better strategic test.

What wind setting should I use for Sheep Ranch?

High wind. The course sits on the most exposed piece of land at Bandon and plays firm and fast. Low wind makes the enormous greens too easy to hold, removing the course’s primary defense.

How do I download Sheep Ranch on GSPro?

Open the GSPro course server, search “Sheep Ranch,” and download. It appears under S in your course library. Free with any GSPro subscription.
