Can You Play Pinehurst No. 2 on Awesome Golf? Here’s How

Pinehurst No. 2 is one of the most important courses in American golf, and Awesome Golf has the post-restoration version. The Coore and Crenshaw restoration that removed the rough, exposed the native sandy waste areas, and returned the greens to their original Donald Ross crowned shape is the version in the library.

The crowned greens are the entire test. The turtleback surfaces reject shots that land on the wrong side of the crown. A wedge that lands two feet from the pin but on the high side rolls to the fringe. Awesome Golf’s green physics handle this correctly — the ball tracks the slope, and you learn very quickly that aiming for the center of the green is the smart play.

How It Plays on Awesome Golf

The waste areas are the other feature. The Coore and Crenshaw restoration removed the Bermuda rough and exposed the native sand. On Awesome Golf, these waste areas play as hazards. The ball does not sit up nicely. The lies are variable. The recovery shots require real decisions.

The greens are the story. Pinehurst No. 2’s greens are some of the most demanding in championship golf. Awesome Golf’s LIDAR data captures the subtle slopes. A putt from above the hole is a two-putt at best. A putt from below the hole is a genuine birdie opportunity if you hit it perfectly. The crowned surfaces make every approach shot a puzzle.

Open Awesome Golf on your iPad. Select Virtual Golf. Browse the course list for “Pinehurst No. 2.” Play it with firm greens and medium wind. Soft conditions remove the entire challenge of the crowned greens.

How It Compares

Pinehurst No. 2 is notably absent from FSX Play. WGT has a post-restoration version that is excellent. GSPro has a community version. Trackman has the most physically accurate version.

Awesome Golf’s version is a solid addition. The crowned greens play correctly. The waste areas are punishing. For $199 a year for the entire library, it is excellent value.
