The Short Answer

Bethpage Black on GOLF+ VR: yes it is available, how to access it, and whether VR captures the brute force of this notoriously difficult public course.

Yes, Bethpage Black is available on GOLF+ VR. It is one of the newer licensed additions to the platform, arriving in June 2025. You can access it as individual DLC or through the GOLF+ Pass. The VR version captures the length, the rough, and the punishing nature of the Black Course that carries the famous warning sign at the first tee.

Bethpage Black is ranked No. 6 in our course database. It is a public course that eats private club members for breakfast. The warning sign at the first tee — “Warning: The Black Course is an extremely difficult course which we recommend only for highly skilled golfers” — is not a suggestion. In VR, the warning still applies.

Course Quality Assessment

Bethpage Black in GOLF+ is a faithful recreation with one major advantage: you cannot feel the elevation changes in your legs the way you do in real life. But you can see them. And on the Black Course, the elevation is everything.

The 4th hole, the downhill par-4 where the green sits in a bowl, plays beautifully in VR. You stand on the tee and see the entire hole laid out below you. The carry zone is obvious. The bowl green reads correctly. The 5th hole, the uphill par-4 that plays 500 yards, feels every bit as long in VR as it does in real life.

The rough in GOLF+ is punishing in the right way. Bethpage Black is defined by its deep, gnarly rough that eats bad tee shots and does not give them back. In VR, the ball sits down in the rough and your next shot is a hack-out. It is not a fun experience. It is an accurate one.

The 15th hole, the long par-4 that runs along the ridgeline, is the best VR hole on the course. The fairway slopes hard left to right. In a screen-based sim, that contour is a flat image on a display. In VR, you can see the slope. You can aim for the left side knowing the ball will feed right. That kind of strategic play is where VR course knowledge becomes real course knowledge.

How to Access

Individual DLC ($10-12): Purchase Bethpage Black standalone on the Meta Quest Store.

GOLF+ Pass ($9.99/month): Full access to Bethpage Black and every other course. At $120 per year, if you play more than a dozen rounds, the pass wins.

The VR Advantage

Bethpage Black rewards local knowledge more than almost any other famous course because the blind shots and elevation changes are so severe. VR is the best simulator format for developing that knowledge. You can walk the course in VR. You can see the shot you need to hit. You will still make bad swings, but you will not make bad decisions.
